Preston Square Neighborhood Watch Notice – December 2008 Since Inspector Preston’s last Newsletter in November, I have attended the Quarterly Crime Watch Executive Board and VIP Meeting of the North Central Patrol. The major topics speakers discussed were: · Identity Theft – The many ways you are exposed and how sophisticated the criminals are becoming. You can help prevent credit card theft by asking your credit card --- Company to eliminate the card logo and to make sure it is used with a personal pin number. --- Add a security freeze for access to your credit reports which only you can lift. · Police Recruiting – A viewing of an excellent recruiting DVD for officers and special teams, SWAT and Forensics. --- A DP officer starts at $42,000, gets a $10,000 bonus after graduating from the Academy · Importance of Neighborhood Watch Volunteers --- The value of their service in 2007 measured in Volunteer Hours = $1.5 million. --- Are responsible for 8-10% reduction in crime · Volunteer Recruiting and Training --- VIP and CHIPS 2009 Training Classes start Saturdays, January 24-Septbember 26 and Evenings 6-9 PM, March 4&5, through November 18 & 19 · Crimes of Opportunity – Leaving packages in your car, having a large purse lose, or leaving it in the shopping cart and wallets stuffed into back pockets. · Awareness of your surroundings. It seems like we started out with maybe 20-25 people and originally they combined the 4 divisions and held the meetings at the INFOMART. This past meeting had over 125 participants and that was only our Division! Preston Square’s Neighborhood Watch Volunteer Recruiting and Training will have its first 2009 meeting in January with guest speakers from DPD and Sheriff’s department. URGENT VIP training class is January 24 I’m working on acquiring all of the safety products, at least for display and I may be able to get them set up at the Club House. Some of you have seen the Pet Safety Light and the Personal Alarm Key Chain (has a loud scream/siren sound) which seem to be in high demand. The First Aid Kit is great too and I have one I keep in my trunk along with a Pepper Spray!* The Pet Safety Light and other produts can be found on this ORDER FORM.
